Cytopoint 10 mg Solution for Injection for Dogs
Cytopoint is a groundbreaking veterinary biologic therapy from Zoetis designed to provide fast, targeted, and long-lasting relief from allergic itch in dogs. Containing the active substance lokivetmab, a caninised monoclonal antibody, Cytopoint specifically targets and neutralises interleukin-31 (IL-31) — the key cytokine responsible for transmitting itch signals to the brain in dogs suffering from allergic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis.
Unlike traditional antihistamines, corticosteroids or immunosuppressants, Cytopoint works with the dog’s own immune system. It begins relieving itch within 24 hours and a single subcutaneous injection can provide continuous relief for 4 to 8 weeks, allowing damaged skin to heal while dramatically improving quality of life for both the dog and its owner.

How Cytopoint Works
IL-31 is a major driver of the itch-scratch cycle in allergic skin disease. Lokivetmab, the monoclonal antibody in Cytopoint, binds to circulating IL-31 and prevents it from activating its receptor on sensory neurons. This interrupts the itch signal pathway, reducing scratching, licking and chewing, and allowing the skin barrier to recover.
Dosage & Administration
Administer by subcutaneous injection. The recommended minimum dose is 1 mg/kg bodyweight (EU labelling) or 2 mg/kg (US labelling). Repeat every 4–8 weeks according to individual patient response.

Safety Information
Cytopoint is generally very well tolerated. Uncommon side effects may include mild gastrointestinal signs (vomiting, diarrhoea, reduced appetite) or lethargy in the first few days after injection. Hypersensitivity reactions are rare. It should not be used in dogs with known hypersensitivity to lokivetmab or any of the excipients, or in dogs under 3 kg.
Always use under veterinary prescription and supervision. Concurrent treatment of secondary infections and avoidance of allergens remains important for optimal results.
