Cytopoint 20mg Solution for Injection for Dogs – Targeted, Long-Lasting Relief from Allergic Itch
Cytopoint 20 mg is a revolutionary, first-in-class veterinary monoclonal antibody therapy developed by Zoetis. It is specifically designed to provide rapid and sustained relief from pruritus (itching) associated with allergic dermatitis and the clinical signs of atopic dermatitis in dogs. Unlike traditional treatments that suppress the immune system broadly, Cytopoint works with precision at the molecular level by neutralizing interleukin-31 (IL-31), the key cytokine responsible for transmitting itch signals to the brain.
Each 1 ml single-use vial contains 20 mg of lokivetmab, a caninised monoclonal antibody (IgG4 subclass) produced using recombinant DNA technology in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells. Because the antibody is structurally modelled on canine immunoglobulins, it is recognised by the dog’s immune system as a natural protein, minimising the risk of anti-drug antibody reactions and making it one of the safest long-term options for managing chronic allergic skin disease.
Key Features & Benefits
- Precision targeting – Specifically binds and neutralises canine IL-31, blocking the itch signal at its source without broad immunosuppression.
- Rapid onset – Clinical studies show itch reduction begins within 24 hours (often as early as 8 hours) after a single subcutaneous injection.
- Long-lasting relief – One injection provides 4–8 weeks of continuous itch control in most dogs, dramatically reducing the need for daily oral medication.
- Steroid-free & organ-friendly – As a biologic, lokivetmab is cleared via normal protein catabolism pathways and does not place metabolic burden on the liver or kidneys, making it ideal for senior dogs or those with concurrent conditions.
- Safe for dogs of all ages – Approved for dogs weighing ≥ 3 kg; can be used alongside many common medications including vaccines, antibiotics, antifungals, antiparasitics, corticosteroids, oclacitinib, cyclosporine and allergen-specific immunotherapy.
- Supports skin healing – By interrupting the itch-scratch cycle, Cytopoint allows damaged skin to recover, improving CADESI scores and reducing secondary infections.
- Convenient in-clinic administration – Ensures compliance; no daily tablets to remember.

Treatment of clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis in dogs.
Dosage & Administration
Cytopoint must be administered by a licensed veterinarian as a subcutaneous injection. The recommended minimum dose is 1–2 mg/kg bodyweight (depending on local labelling). For the 20 mg vial:
- Dogs 10.1–20.0 kg: one 20 mg vial
Administer the entire contents of the vial. For larger dogs requiring multiple vials, draw the required volumes into the same syringe, gently invert 3–4 times to mix (avoid foaming), and inject as a single dose. Repeat every 4–8 weeks according to clinical response. Do not use in dogs under 3 kg. Safety in pregnant, lactating or breeding animals has not been established.
Storage
Store refrigerated at 2–8 °C in the original packaging, protected from light. Do not freeze. Once opened, use immediately and discard any unused portion.
