Why Monitor Nitrite Levels?

Nitrite is produced as a byproduct of the breakdown of fish waste in your aquarium. It is toxic to fish in high concentrations, but can be easily managed with the right monitoring tools. Regular testing for nitrite helps maintain an optimal aquarium environment that supports fish growth and health.

How Nitrite Affects Fish

• Stress & Illness: Even low levels of nitrite can stress fish, leading to reduced immunity and increased susceptibility to diseases.
• Reduced Oxygen Levels: High nitrite concentrations can interfere with fish’s ability to absorb oxygen, causing difficulty in breathing.
• Damage to Gills: Prolonged exposure to nitrite can harm a fish's gills, leading to respiratory problems and even death.

How to Use the NT Labs Nitrite Test Kit

1. Step 1: Ensure the test tube is clean before use.
2. Step 2: Take a 5 ml water sample and place it into the test tube.
3. Step 3: Add 5 drops of the nitrite reagent and shake thoroughly.
4. Step 4: Wait for 2 minutes, then compare the sample’s color to the color scale.
5. Step 5: The presence of nitrite is indicated by any hint of pink.
