NT Labs Marine Lab Phosphate Test Kit - 40 Tests
Phosphate is an essential component in fish nutrition but can also be produced as a waste product by fish. While phosphate is practically non-toxic to fish, excessive phosphate can cause unwanted algae and inhibit coral growth. Regular testing of phosphate levels is crucial for maintaining a healthy aquarium environment.
Why Test for Phosphate?
Maintaining a low phosphate level is vital to minimize algae growth and promote healthy coral development. As an aquarium ages, phosphate tends to accumulate, which makes regular phosphate testing important to assess the health of your aquarium.
What is the Correct Phosphate Level?
In natural seawater, phosphate levels typically vary from 0.01 mg/l to 0.06 mg/l in reef areas. In a reef aquarium, aim to keep phosphate levels at 0.03 mg/l to maintain healthy coral growth and minimize nuisance algae.
What to Do if the Phosphate Level is Too High?
To maintain low phosphate levels, perform regular water changes using high-quality reef salt. If necessary, use Phosphate Remover in your filter or add Anti-Phos liquid to instantly reduce phosphate levels.
